Partnership with Parents
At Hollyhill Knocknaheeny Family Centre, we believe that strong partnership with parents and guardians is essential to children’s wellbeing, learning, and development.
Parents and guardians know their children best. By working together, families and staff can create consistency between home and the Family Centre and provide children with stronger support.
Why Partnership Matters
Partnership with parents helps to:
- support each child’s development and wellbeing,
- create consistency between home and the Family Centre,
- help staff understand each child’s needs, routines, interests, and personality,
- support children’s social and emotional development,
- encourage shared learning goals,
- build trust between families and staff,
- create a stronger foundation for lifelong learning.
Open-Door Approach
The Family Centre promotes an open-door approach.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to communicate openly with staff and to discuss their child’s needs, progress, routines, or concerns.
Where possible, parents may speak with staff at suitable times. However, if a longer or more private conversation is needed, parents and guardians should arrange a meeting with the Manager, Lead Educator, or relevant staff member.
The safety, care, and supervision of children remains the priority at all times.
Sharing Information
Regular information sharing helps staff support each child more effectively.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to tell staff about:
- changes in their child’s routine,
- health or medical needs,
- allergies or dietary requirements,
- family circumstances that may affect the child,
- emotional or behavioural changes,
- sleep or toileting changes,
- comfort needs,
- additional support needs,
- achievements or important milestones at home.
This helps staff respond to children with understanding, care, and consistency.
Child Path Communication
The Family Centre uses Child Path to support communication with parents and guardians.
Child Path may help parents stay connected with their child’s day through updates such as:
- messages,
- daily care information,
- activities,
- meals,
- sleep,
- nappy or toileting updates,
- learning observations,
- photos or videos, where appropriate consent has been given.
Child Path helps create a stronger Home – Family Centre connection and can support meaningful conversations with children at home.
Working Together
The Family Centre aims to build positive, respectful relationships with parents and guardians.
Parents and guardians can support this partnership by:
- keeping contact details up to date,
- reading Family Centre updates and notices,
- informing staff of absences or changes,
- sharing relevant information about their child,
- attending meetings where needed,
- raising concerns early and respectfully,
- following Family Centre policies and procedures,
- respecting the privacy of other children, families, and staff.
A strong partnership between families and the Family Centre helps children feel safe, secure, valued, and supported.
