FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Crèche a free service?
No. The crèche fee is €20 per day. However, parents can apply for a subsidy through the National Childcare Scheme (NCS), which significantly reduces the cost.
What age does my child need to be to attend the crèche?
Your child must be 2 years old before September of the year, in order to start in the crèche that year.
Can my child attend preschool without attending the crèche first?
Yes. Children do not have to attend the crèche to join the preschool.
However, crèche children are prioritised for morning preschool places. If morning places are full, a child may receive an afternoon place in Year 1 and a morning place in Year 2.
Will my child automatically get a preschool place after attending the crèche?
Yes, all crèche children are guaranteed a preschool place.
However, a morning place is not guaranteed—availability may mean an afternoon session in Year 1.
Does my child have to complete both years of ECCE?
No. While two years of ECCE is recommended for developmental progression, it is not mandatory. Parents can discuss their child’s needs with the Lead Educator.
Is preschool open during the summer?
No. The preschool operates on the ECCE calendar, running for 38 weeks per year. It is closed during the summer months.
What should I do if I feel my child needs additional support?
Speak with the Manager or Lead Educator. They can guide you through referral options, develop a support plan, and connect you with specialist supports such as Better Start and the AIM model for ECCE.
How does the enrolment process work?
Parents can request an application form by:
• Visiting the Family Centre,
• Calling: 021-4392300,
• Emailing: thefamilycentre2020@gmail.com
Submitting a form places you on the waiting list; it does not guarantee a place.
Places are usually offered in April for the following September.
When should I put my child’s name on the crèche waiting list?
It is recommended that parents join the waiting list when their child is just a few months old due to high demand.
What fees and payment policies should I be aware of?
• Fees must be paid weekly.
• Fees apply for sick days and holiday weeks.
• Ending a place requires 4 weeks’ notice.
• NCS subsidies are available for most families.
• ECCE sessions are free, with limited optional extra hours available.
